Stretching more than 41,000 square miles along the coast of the Arabian Gulf and across to the Gulf of Oman, the UAE's sunny weather and vast stretches of deserts, beaches and mountains, as well as its modern cities, make it the ideal destination for almost any kind of traveller. The massive project calls for two islands, shaped like a palm trees, to be built in the Arabian Gulf off the coast of Dubai. When completed, each of the islands will be 6km in diameter. It total, the islands will be the site for a total of 82 luxury hotels, 4,000 residential villas, shopping malls, cinemas and a marine park. Marinas with the capacity to berth 150 yachts and 50 "super yachts" will also be built and available for property owners.

Villas on the Palm Island project will be sold on a free-hold basis to any interested buyer.

The project, which is being funded by the Government of Dubai, will also add 120km of beaches to Dubai's coastline. The islands are being designed in an environmentally sounds manner, and will provide a sanctuary for wildlife.

The UAE has six international airports with the capacity to serve more than 16 million passengers a year.

In 2000, more than 11 million passengers travelled through the Dubai International Airport alone. By 2006, between 40-45 million passengers are expected to use Dubai International Airport a year.
